So all the reviews for this film were great. I decided to finally check out the flick for myself.

Disappointed to say the least. Way too many holes in the plot that made no sense at all. The story would establish a rule for how things worked and then ten minutes later, break that rule with no consequence to anything. I understand how they were trying to go for a kind of “Inception meets Vantage Point” style of film, but with the glaring ommisions of logic, it bogged the film down – especially in the final twenty minutes where they basically threw everything out the door entirely!

In a vain attempt to make a “happy ending”, the writers took everything they had spent the movie explaining and chucked it. There was no way to change the outcome of the source code. At the end, somehow he does change it. I call BS. I was never quite sure if the events all took place on the same day or not. I was under the impression they did. In which case, him sending an email to Farmiga’s character would have meant time travel of some sort, which they emphasized was not how the code worked. And the ending of the film, where the source code continues on from the 8 minute mark (which they also said would not happen) has only one explaination – that he and the girl were in “Heaven” of some sort…But if he saved everyone on the train – why are they dead? And if they are dead – why does he still look like the history teacher? But didn’t he save everyone on the train? The one big “shocker” moment of the film, when you find out that he is basically a torso in a box wired to a computer is pretty dumb too. They are keeping him “alive” to conduct the experiment, but that is being done simply by a bunch of wires plugged into his brain? Should the rest of the body not be hooked up with some form of devices also? Which begs to ask the question, why is he in that stupid pod unit the whole time, and if he was basically dead, what was the point of the unit collapsing in on him and losing the ventilation and stuff? Why would that even matter – and if all he is is a torso – why even bother having him imagining that he’s got arms and legs and stuff, when he can’t go anywhere regardless? The film had potential and then squandered it in the last 30 minutes. Not sure how it managed a 91% fresh on tomatoes?! I’d rank this one more around the 58% mark.
